Béduer is a charming village, in the département of the Lot. Set on a hill overlooking the Célé valley, it enjoys views north towards the village of Camboulit, and east towards Figeac. It has a population of a few hundred permanent residents. The village is dominated at its highest point by the 12th Century medieval castle, the Château de Béduer.
The pilgrim’s way leading from Le Puy en Velay in the Auvergne to Santiago de Compostela in north west Spain passes the Château, and pilgrims are a frequent sight. There is good road access to Figeac, the nearest local town, to Cajarc, a charming market town on the river Lot, and to the medieval city of Cahors, the capital city of the Lot.
Local Amenities
Béduer has a simple restaurant, which during the summer months moves to an outdoor location near the Château, a bakery providing fresh bread and croissants daily and a hair salon. Nearly all visitors drive their own car or rent one. This enables access to the extensive facilities of the local market town, Figeac, which is 10 minutes away and a medieval architectural delight in its own right.
Figeac offers a large traditional open market every week on Saturdays and a night market on Thursday evenings in summer. There is a wide selection of small shops selling local specialities including wine, cheese and duck products, about 40 restaurants and cafes offering a wide range of cuisines, supermarkets, banks, ATMs, doctors, pharmacies and a hospital.
